DHCP

How DHCP and DHCPv6 work in RouterOS: address assignment, leases and renewal, conflict checks, client identification, options and relays, and which RouterOS component to use: the DHCP client, server and relay for IPv4, and the DHCPv6 client, server and relay for IPv6.

DHCP Client

The RouterOS DHCP client gets an IPv4 address and network settings for an interface from a DHCP server. This page explains what the client applies from a lease, the options it requests and sends, the routes it adds, and examples of lease scripts.

DHCP Relay

DHCP relay forwards DHCP and DHCPv6 requests from clients to a DHCP server in another network, with optional relay agent information (option 82) and VRF support.

DHCP Server

The RouterOS DHCP server assigns IPv4 addresses and network settings to clients from IP pools, with static leases, networks, DHCP options and option sets, option matchers, RADIUS support, rate limiting and rogue DHCP server alerts.

First Time Configuration

This page provides a step-by-step guide for first-time MikroTik RouterOS configuration, covering prerequisites, connection setup, and key concepts like DHCP, NAT, and firewall. It includes both WinBox graphical and CLI methods for new and advanced users.

HotSpot - Captive portal

The MikroTik HotSpot Gateway enables client authentication for public networks with features like DHCP address pools, multiple authentication methods, and walled-garden access. It requires IPv4 and has specific routing limitations, with configuration examples provided for setup.

Manual Network Setup (No Default Configuration)

How to manually set up a MikroTik router that has no default configuration: reset to a clean state, create a bridge, assign a LAN IP address, and configure a DHCP server using CLI or WinBox/WebFig.

Network Services

Network Services documentation provides configuration guides for essential network services including DHCP, DNS, ARP, Cloud services, proxy features, SOCKS, and OpenFlow to support network-facing operations.
